Sweet Willie was a student of mine in the early 1970’s. And, without a doubt, Sweet Willie is the best student I have ever had.  Only a handful of trumpet players in the world have a sound that is as beautiful and well centered as Sweet Willie’s magnificent tone. Bar none, Sweet Willie has the most beautiful tone on fluegelhorn that I have ever heard. Sweet Willie’s beautiful vibrant tone, coupled with exquisite phrasing as both a lead trumpet player as well as a solo, jazz player is impeccable. I’M JEALOUS!!

Sweet Willie is blessed with a big, beautiful ballsy sound that will project at any volume a country mile. Sweetness is a magnificent lead trumpet player. The only lead trumpet player who had a sound that I can compare to Sweetness is the great, Conrad Gozzo who performed on some of my studio recordings.
