Following an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy Band in 1971, Sweet Willie Singleton pursued a degree in music from Southern University in Baton Rouge. During his college career, he received a National Endowment for the Arts Student Travel Grant to study with Clark Terry. Clark Terry became a lifelong mentor and friend of Sweet Willie Singleton’s.
In 1978, Clark Terry hired Sweet Willie Singleton to play split lead trumpet with Mike Vax on a European Tour.
This is a live 1978 video recording of Clark Terry Big ‘BAD’ Band that was recorded at a concert hall in Lugano, Switzerland.
